The Tees Valley Combined Authority have announced plans to transform the road networks across the Tees Valley region: the A689 corridor improvements and Darlington Northern Link Road. Businesses and residents are encourage to review the schemes and provide feedback during the consultation phase.

A689 Corridor Improvements

The A689 is identified as a key corridor linking the A1(M) and A19 also, forms part of the Major Road Network. This area already experiences congestion particularly in the morning and evening. The demands for use of this area are expected to grow with the development of Hartlepool’s south west extension and Wynyard. Therefore, the need for improvement across the area is needed to avoid a barrier to economic growth in the Tees Valley.

What are the proposals?

  • Improvement to A1(M) Junction 60
  • Improvement to the A19/ A689 junction at Wynyard
  • Smaller junction improvements in Hartlepool
  • New traffic free cycle route and footway between Wolviston Services roundabout and Queen Meadow
  • New cycle route between Sedgefield and the Wynyard development, that could create a continuous cycle network between Sedgefield and Queens Meadow
